About the book
The new edition of Open-Source Charisma is the companion volume to the Pro instrument. The Pro is the diagnostic. The book is the development pathway. Same model, different register.
Ten chapters cover the ten subscales in turn. Each one starts with a working example, sets out the underlying competency in plain language, and ends with the practices to start on this week. The voice is conversational rather than academic. The reader earns the framework through the stories, rather than being lectured about it up front.
The examples come from thirty years of practice with senior leaders, sales teams and consultants in firms including JP Morgan, Mercer, Ford and Rolls-Royce. Real characters (renamed) doing real work, observed across multiple meetings and multiple years.
What's in it
Ten chapters, ten Steps
One chapter per subscale of the Pro instrument. Each chapter is a Step: a clear account of the underlying skill, a working example, and the practices that move the needle in the next working week.
The people in the stories
Matt, Steve, John, Mike, Samantha, and others. The book is built around the characters who taught Jim what works and what does not. The principles are earned through the stories, not asserted up front.
Tried-and-tested practice
Strategies and tactics drawn from real client work, not invented from scratch. The kind of practical, repeatable moves that help you bring your best self to every room you're in.
Coming later this year
The new edition of Open-Source Charisma is in final preparation. Publication is planned for later this year. We will announce the release date through the mailing list and on the main Open-Source Charisma site.
The earlier book that introduced the original model is available now. It sets out the four-quadrant framework that the Pro instrument has since deepened, and it is the right place to start if you want the foundational read while the new edition is in production.
